Values

Faith

We are both inspired and informed by the person and work of Jesus Christ. Answering the call to “seek peace and pursue it” (Psalm 34:14), we step out of our peace and into the brokenness of war-torn and refugee communities seeking the repair of both broken relationships as well as the things these fractured relationships have broken. We work in partnership with others to create communities of justice, dialogue, peace and reconciliation.

Compassion

Compassion compels us to work to alleviate the suffering of our fellow beings. We see our service as a call to love, to treat others with equity and respect, as we ourselves wish to be treated.

Hope

We desire to give hope to refugees and other forcibly displaced persons. Therefore, we provide a spiritual and practical response to their plight.

Dignity

We believe in the intrinsic dignity of every person. We work with refugees and other displaced persons regardless of race, gender, religion or politics.

Solidarity

We work with faith and strive for justice through humble and respectful service in solidarity with refugees from diverse cultures, nationalities and religions.

Hospitality

We aspire to be hospitality in action. We walk alongside, accompany and offer hospitality to the most vulnerable, those on the fringe of society, giving priority to situations of great need, in places where a more universal good may be achieved, and to needs to which others are not attending.

Justice

We are committed to a justice that empowers refugees to become “people with a voice of their own”, working together with them to challenge systems that deny human rights.

Participation

We work in partnership with other religious congregations, humanitarian organizations and with refugees themselves, encouraging co-responsibility, discernment and participative decision-making.
